On 28 July 2010, through Resolution 64/292, the United Nations General Assembly explicitly recognised the human right to water and sanitation and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realisation of all human rights. Which means States and international organisations have to provide the means necessary to help countries provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water for all.
Fact #1: Approximately 18% of reported and investigated outbreaks are linked to water. However, the true extent of water-related diseases in the European region is unknown, and likely to be much higher than data suggest.
Fact #2: Over 200 million Americans in all 50 states have contaminated water.
Fact #3: Today 1 in 3 people or 2.2 billion people around the world lack safe drinking water.
Fact #4: Nearly two-thirds of the world population, experience severe water scarcity
Fact #5: One third of the world’s biggest groundwater systems are already in distress.
